The wealthy Mariani family suddenly finds itself on the brink of bankruptcy due to a risky investment made by Edoardo, the father. Their financial situation deteriorates quickly, forcing Edoardo, his wife Giovanna, and their children — Giacomo, Emma, and Lidia — to abandon their luxurious villa and move to a dilapidated house in a remote village. In this new life of poverty, they can only rely on Ottavio, an old school friend of Edoardo, who lives a frugal lifestyle with his wife Rosa and their daughter. Amidst the economic hardship and the despair of losing all their luxuries and comforts, the Mariani family rediscovers the importance of trust and gratitude.
Poveri noi (Poor Us) is a comedy that emerges from a common and realistic fear: what happens when you lose everything? The film addresses this question without succumbing to cynicism or despair. It highlights that in life’s darkest moments, our most valuable assets are our human connections.
Orange Pictures is once again working alongside director Fabrizio Maria Cortese, this time for a project born from the pen of Federico Moccia. Poveri noi (Poor Us) features two families from opposing social backgrounds: Ilaria Spada and Paolo Ruffini play the wealthy and snobbish Edoardo and Giovanna Mariani, while Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Ricky Memphis portray Ottavio and Rosa, representatives of a more working-class and ordinary reality.
